We’re very proud of the value that CAS’s services can offer. And we’re always keen to support local businesses. In this new series of blogs, we’re going to focus on localities across the East of England. First up is one of the most historically important cities in the UK: Cambridge. Alongside its rich traditions, the city has a modern outlook - and CAS can help make the most of what Cambridge offers.

Cambridge mixes the ancient and the modern

Cambridge was granted its city charter in 1951 in recognition of its history, administrative importance and economic success. The city’s centre is dominated by various colleges of the University of Cambridge, many founded in medieval times. It now boasts a second university, Anglia Ruskin University. Cambridge has excellent transport links with other parts of the country. But employment and resident population have both grown rapidly in the 21st century, as the city diversifies from its traditional economic roles.

In 2016, there were 131,800 local residents in the city and non-metropolitan district. Of this total, 98.3% were economically active or not claiming benefits. These jobs are high-quality: the proportion in the professional, managerial and administrative categories is 32.6% (against the UK average of 23.5%). Most recently, the city has become a vibrant and vital centre for hi-tech businesses and technology incubators. Its nickname - ‘Silicon Fen’ - is a nod to the ‘Silicon Valley’ tech sector of California, USA. There has been a profusion of science parks on the city’s outskirts, many of them owned or leased by university colleges.

Off-site document storage and digital document management

Over 24,450 companies are located in the city, with a total turnover of £35.6 billion in 2015-16. As a result of this economic success, high-quality office space is at a premium in Cambridge. Rents have risen in recent years, both within the city, and in industrial and science parks to its north and south. Every organisation operating in Cambridge must think carefully about the size of its offices, as upward rent pressure continues.

Moving document storage off-site to our secure facilities allows organisations to make savings on their rent bills. CAS provides document storage services, which don’t compromise on the security of your archive, nor on access to documents. Our live file storage system allows rapid access to frequently used documents, with a full audit trail of interactions with each document. And to facilitate remote working, we’re can offer constant access to files via our proprietary CAS-Cloud document management system.

Cambridge health-sector organisations rely on us for advanced medical records storage

We’re also experts in specialised medical records storage. CAS recognises the obligations set out by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for health-sector organisations. We’re fully compliant with the Europe-wide General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which came into force in May 2018. We’re registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) No: Z1281061. We maintain the confidentiality of medical records at all our secure sites. We’ve written up a case study on our work with the Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust, where we digitised more than 20,000 confidential client files and relocated the paper documents.

Responding to Cambridge’s business needs

Our local business clients in Cambridge come in all shapes and sizes, so our services are designed to respond to your specific needs. Whether you need off-site archive storage or scanning-on-demand, an office relocation or office supplies, we’re here to help. And what’s more, our pricing policy is competitive, transparent, and without hidden costs.

We’re especially able to offer good value to Cambridge businesses thanks to the efforts of our business development manager, Claire Brooks. She’s leading on an expansion of our document management services across the East England region. This is allowing us to think globally and act locally in East England, to take a more strategic look at document management.
